As Sukant Ratnakar once said “Innovation is the outcome of a habit, not a random act,” I am just beginning to form the habit of embracing change to bring about the innovation that can improve our current educational system. Change will always feel uncomfortable at first, the fear of the unknown and of failure can be intimidating but let that not hinder our chance to be better. So as cliché as it may sound, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” and starting in my little world, I will promote the change I wish to see in my school.
This Innovation Proposal (Blended Learning- Station and Individual Rotation), intends to spark for our learning community to explore other opportunities for growth and progress by integrating technology effectively. As I endorse this plan to my colleagues, and as stated on the Implementation Outline, I will continue my research and development for effective teaching strategies, and new instructional resources, both hands-on and digital. I intend to participate with training and workshops on blended learning that I can in turn share with my campus. To advocate change, our core group of teachers will utilize best practices for blended learning and share feedback to the rest of the campus. The blended learning committee will guarantee that every teacher, every student, and even family will be supported. Teamwork, collaboration and partnership will make this program sustainable and successful. In addition, based on my research as documented in the Literature Review, beyond integrating technology in our classrooms, blended learning fosters COVA (Choice, Ownership and Voice through Authentic Learning Opportunities). As a school, we do not only support a child’s cognitive development, we also teach them valuable lessons to acquire appropriate emotional, personal and social skills, so as they become adults, they are equipped with skills to be independent and successful in life. This is the holistic approach to teaching and learning, it embodies two of the most valuable aspects in life- intelligence and character.
